Pallet Racking for Irish Warehouses and Distribution Operations
Pallet racking is the backbone of warehousing across Irish industry. From food and drink distribution centres to building materials depots, pharmaceutical logistics hubs to haulage and freight operations, the ability to store palletised goods safely, accessibly, and efficiently within a defined floor area determines how well a warehouse actually functions day to day.
OHRA Ireland pallet racking – applicable for many applications
OHRA Ireland pallet racking is manufactured from hot-rolled steel — not the cold-rolled sheet steel used in lighter alternatives — and is individually configured to your warehouse dimensions, your pallet specifications, and your forklift or handling equipment. Every system is structurally calculated to your actual loads, not a generic table maximum.
We supply and install pallet racking across the country, covering the full range from heavy-duty industrial systems to cost-effective medium-duty configurations, including roofed outdoor installations, mobile high-density systems, and drive-in racking for block storage applications.
OHRA Ireland pallet rack key properties:
- Designed specifically for your warehouse structure
- Easy and rapid assembly
- Enhanced safety tolerances
- Accessorising for specific racking layouts
- Outdoor racking systems available (galvanised roof and/or walls)
- Rust-through guarantee lasting for 25 years with hot-dipped galvanisation
- Suitable for other storage accessories as well, e.g., pallet cages or tools

P3 Heavy duty pallet racking
The P3 system is OHRA Ireland's primary pallet racking range for heavy and demanding industrial applications — raw materials, semi-finished products, heavy machinery components, steel coils, building materials, and any palletised load that pushes against the limits of lighter racking alternatives. The structural case for the P3 starts with the material: hot-rolled steel uprights and beams throughout. Cold-rolled alternatives — the dominant material in budget pallet racking systems — are formed from sheet steel and are inherently susceptible to localised deformation under impact or sustained heavy load. Hot-rolled steel is formed from solid billets at high temperature, producing consistent, full-walled sections with the structural integrity to handle bay loads up to 32,500 kg and beam loads up to 6,000 kg without compromise.
Key specifications:
- Completely custom pallet racking - configured to your needs
- Bay loads up to 32,500 kg
- Beam loads up to 6,000 kg
- Easy to put together and completely extendable
- Hot-dip galvanised finish for outdoor installation — 25-year rust-through warranty
P5 Medium and Light Duty Pallet Racking
Not every pallet racking application requires heavy-duty structural steel. For beam loads under 3,000 kg — which covers a wide range of Irish warehouse and distribution applications — the P5 system provides a cost-effective, high-quality solution without over-engineering the specification.
High-quality racking for lighter loads
P5 uprights use optimised steel sheet sections rather than full hot-rolled profiles, and beams are IPG section with hanging bracket connections to uprights. The result is a system that assembles quickly, extends easily, and handles bay loads up to 18,000 kg at a lower cost per storage position than the P3 range. Beam height is adjustable on a 50mm pitch without tools. Uprights are galvanised and beams are powder-coated in RAL 7035 light grey as standard.
Key specifications:
- Lower cost solution - quotes available on request
- Bay loads up to 18,000 kg
- Beam loads up to 3,000 kg
- Quick assembly and straightforward extension
- Galvanised uprights; powder-coated IPG beams in RAL 7035

Roofed Pallet Racking — Outdoor Storage for Irish Conditions
For Irish businesses that need to expand storage capacity without expanding their building, roofed pallet racking provides weather-protected outdoor storage for a wide range of palletised goods — at a fraction of the cost of a conventional warehouse extension.
Roofed pallet racking is hot-dip galvanised throughout, with a 25-year rust-through warranty on the galvanised finish. The roof structure — available in trapezoidal steel sheet or translucent light panel options — is designed to handle the specific wind and snow load conditions at your Irish site. For exposed sites in coastal or western Ireland, that site-specific structural approach matters; a generic European roof specification isn't always adequate for the conditions a structure will actually face over its service life.
Key benefits:
- Structural design accounts for Irish site-specific wind and snow loads
- Hot-dip galvanised throughout — 25-year rust-through warranty
- Roof options: trapezoidal steel sheet or translucent light panels
- Side and rear wall panels available for full enclosure
- High load capacity despite outdoor installation
Dynamic storage racks — Maximum Storage Density
When warehouse floor space is genuinely constrained and you need to increase pallet storage capacity without increasing your building footprint, mobile pallet racking achieves the highest storage density available for palletised goods short of an automated system. For Irish logistics and distribution businesses operating in leased warehouse space — particularly in the Dublin, Cork, and Galway logistics corridors where warehousing costs per square metre are significant — mobile racking can meaningfully reduce the floor area required to hold a given pallet count, with direct impact on operating costs.
Key Advantages:
- Very compact system storing heavy loads in minimal space
- Moving rack protection (called “rack block night position”) prevents your goods from theft
- Quiet, smooth carriage movement even under load
- Available for installation either in a new area or existing one

Pallet Racking with Mezzanine Floors
Combining pallet racking with an integrated mezzanine floor allows Irish warehouse operators to work across multiple levels within a single building height — significantly increasing the usable storage or operational area without any change to the building envelope.
OHRA designs and installs pallet racking mezzanine systems where individual runs of pallet racking are connected at an intermediate level with structural steel sections and floor decking — either metal sheet or chipboard panel depending on the intended use. The mezzanine level can serve as additional pallet storage, a picking and packing zone, an office or welfare area, or a combination of uses within the same level.
Key advantages:
- Makes the best use of available space and maximises the entire height of the building
- Closer proximity of storage and order picking zones
- Cuts logistical time due to the full integration and use of the storage region
Drive-In Racking — Block Storage for Homogeneous Pallet Loads
Drive-in racking is the highest-density fixed pallet storage system available — forklifts drive directly into the racking structure to place and retrieve pallets on cantilevered rails, eliminating all inter-rack aisles entirely. Storage is on a last-in, first-out (LIFO) basis, which makes drive-in racking most suitable for goods where stock rotation within a bay isn't a day-to-day priority. The system is particularly effective for storing large quantities of a single product — seasonal goods being held in volume, raw materials buffered ahead of a production line, or palletised goods where the full bay is typically loaded and cleared as a batch rather than picked from individually.
Key benefits:
- Highest fixed-aisle pallet storage density — forklift drives directly into racking structure
- LIFO storage principle — suited to batch loading and clearing
- Ideal for large volumes of homogeneous palletised product
- Shuttle units available for extreme load capacities
